Beach, Be Honest

Nothing makes me happier than being in close proximity to an ocean, river or lake. In a perfect world, I’d wake up to the sight of sun beams bouncing off of water and fall asleep to the sound of waves crashing against the sand. It’s interesting because as much as I love immersing myself in nautical spaces now, they’ve historically been a source of deep anxiety for me. As a plus-size teenager in the early 2000’s, I used to dodge pool days like the plague because the swimwear available to me was never half as cute as the options available to my peers. The scarcity of options for my body made me feel like I wasn’t worthy of taking part in the fun and I, in turn, spiraled down a rabbit hole of bad self-image. Since then, two interesting things happened. The first and most important thing was that I learned how to love my body. The second thing was that options for plus-size women gradually began to increase. I am grateful for both of these developments because fear and insecurity no longer prevents me from living my best life. In fact, I now open myself up and share my experiences on this platform to instill confidence in people who are going through the same inner struggles that I once went through. This post is a testament to the power of learning how to love yourself and the importance of inclusion of all body types across coveted brands like the one I’m wearing today.
