The Straw Bag
A Familiar Friend
My love for the straw bag dates back to 2011. It was a pretty big year for me. I had just completed my first year at Wellesley College, and was gearing up for my very first fashion internship. I was excited beyond belief, obsessed with looking the part, and broke -- not the best combination for someone about to spend their summer working alongside style obsessed professionals. I spent weeks searching for perfect summer staples and putting together flawless looks-for-less with my mom. I was in full “fake it till you make it” mode, so you can imagine how elated I was when my new boss couldn’t stop gushing over a gold straw tote that I snagged from Aldo! Here’s a picture.
Fast forward 6 years -- it’s 2017 and straw bags have become one of the hottest summer essentials. You see them flooding your Instagram feed, draped around the shoulder of your favorite fashionista, and covered by the hottest publications. I’ve been feeling super bohemian this summer, so when I laid eyes on Free People’s Sunshine Straw Crossbody, I knew I had to have it. It’s been my saving grace all summer. I wear it to the beach, to the pool, and even when I’m running random errands. I love it because it doesn’t look like every other structured straw bag out there, and it was affordable. The Look
Today’s look is intentionally warm and rustic. I found this dress at H&M years ago, and only thought to throw it on because of how nicely the color scheme played with my straw bag and leather mules. My wooden rose gold JORD watch is just the cherry on top. I’ll definitely be calling upon this flirty combination again as I transition from summer to fall. As always you can get the look below.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to JORD Watches for partnering with me on a successful Spring Campaign. The results are in, and I will be reaching out to the winners with prize details! Thanks for reading!
